WHY IT MATTERS

Why PA homeowners are installing generators

PA Storm Season

Thunderstorms, ice storms, and nor’easters regularly knock out power across Montgomery County — sometimes for hours, sometimes for days.

Sump Pump Protection

The storms that cause outages also bring heavy rain. A dead sump pump during a power outage puts your basement at risk exactly when it is raining hardest.

HVAC Continuity

Your heat pump and furnace are useless without power. A generator keeps your family warm in winter and cool in summer during outages.

Medical Equipment

For households with oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines, or other medical devices, power reliability is non-negotiable.

HOW IT WORKS

Automatic. No action required from you.

01

Automatic Detection

The automatic transfer switch monitors utility power 24/7. It detects an outage within seconds of the power going out.

02

Startup in Seconds

The generator engine starts automatically — no fumbling in the dark, no extension cords, no manual switches to flip.

03

Transfer Switch Engages

The transfer switch safely disconnects your home from the utility grid and connects the generator, typically within 10 to 30 seconds.

04

Full Power Restored

Your home runs normally. Lights, HVAC, refrigerator, sump pump — everything operates as if the grid never went down.

05

Automatic Restoration

When utility power returns, the system automatically transfers back and shuts the generator down. No action required from you.

06

Weekly Self-Test

Standby generators run a brief self-test weekly to confirm readiness, and remote monitoring lets us keep an eye on your unit between visits.

FAQ

Generator questions answered

How long can a standby generator run continuously?

Standby generators run on your existing natural gas or LP supply, so a natural gas unit can run for as long as fuel is available. Propane units run as long as the tank lasts, depending on load. Oil should be checked roughly every 24 hours of runtime.

Do I need a permit to install a standby generator?

Yes. We handle all permit applications, utility notifications, and inspections required in your municipality. It is included in our install process.

How far from my house does the generator need to be placed?

Clearances are set by local code and the manufacturer, and they differ for the house itself versus windows, doors, and vents. We assess your property and choose a placement that satisfies code while accounting for noise and appearance.

Will a generator work with my home’s gas line?

We assess your existing gas supply and upgrade the line if needed. The generator connects to a dedicated gas tap installed during the installation.

What maintenance does a standby generator need?

Annual oil and filter changes, periodic spark plug replacement, and a battery check each spring. We offer maintenance plans — ask us and we will quote one for your unit.
